Review: Scream (2022)

Image
Rating: 8/10 I mean, I was never really a huge fan of Scream movies so I got to watching this one with not really high expectations and this might be my favorite one of the films. Not differentiating too much in the basics from the previous movies, still it is good enough to watch and here is why.

Review: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

Image
Rating: 1/10 Is this a joke? Even having covid was better than this movie lol

Review: Candyman (2021)

Image
My rating: 6/10 Before I proceed with my review I have to mention that I have not seen the original '92 version of this film so the actual impression from this one was based on this work only with no comparison to the original version. And I actually kind of liked this film.

Review: Malignant (2021)

Image
My rating: 4/10 This review contains major spoilers, because I am so done. James Wan used to be my favorite director because of his very heavy atmospheric horror movies. I remember his pieces to always be the scariest shit there was so hell yes that I was terribly disappointed with this one.

Review: Don't Breathe (2016)

Don't Breathe is an average thriller film with quite tense atmosphere. There are not that many horror elements, but in this particular film I enjoyed the way the film plays with the sensory perception of the characters. Such scenes were the ones best shot and best highlighting the overall idea of the film. However, the characters do not stand out much - apart from the antagonist, and in the end I was not sure who I should be rooting for to survive, because to some extent, the blind guy was in the right to shoot them (as mentioned in the movie itself, too). The film tries to bring in a very sad story of the girl lead character, but it just feels forced and as if there could have been another way to escape her fate, thus I did not agree with her actions.  As for the plot, there are some original and unexpected twists and the action going on is enough to keep you entertained as the film is quite short.  5/10

Review: Train to Busan 2 (2020)

Image
My rating: 4 I consider Train to Busan one of the best zombie horror film, thus the disappointment while watching the second part was huge. Train to Busan 2 is more of an action film. Despite that it seems that it takes characters forever to make a decision or move away when they should. It just has way too many plot holes for me to enjoy, even though when the action scenes of the film were going on, it did not seem that bad. So to speak though, the film seems a bit familiar to the not-so-good episodes of The Walking Dead. The focus on people being the evil in the postapocalyptic world is not working in this case though, there is simply not enough time to dive deep enough into the evil nature of the said characters.  From the visual point of view, zombies are yet again portrayed very well. But we do not get to see much of them, as majority of action happens either when fighting humans or when the protagonists are in a car. Car chasing scenes were done with special effects th...

Review: Hereditary (2018)

Image
Rating: 7/10 I am glad I have not watched a trailer of this film, that way it remained mysterious and strange.

Review: Bone Tomahawk (2015)

Image
Rating: 7 Bone Tomahawk is a story from one of my favorite eras to watch. The plot is kind of basic, yet still interesting, with just a few holes in it that did not seem to bother me at all. Apart from a quite good (even though overly repeated) story, the movie cast was very well chosen and the actors just fit the characters they are portraying. As far as the dialogues are concerned, there are some funny remarks, some witty parts, and apart from final scenes in the cave I enjoyed the dialogues a lot.  As for the horror elements, they are mostly build on gore scenes portrayed in the second half of the film. And these were really authentically portrayed making the scenes uneasy to be watched. Second half of the film plays on the note of cannibalism and is very disturbing. But overall, there are not many gory scenes.  The film is nice one to watch as it blends more genres together, which we do not see quite often with this theme.

Review: Summer of 84 (2018)

Image
My rating: 6 Quite a good thing to watch when you're completely exhausted and do not want to think too much into anything.

Review: Train to Busan (2016)

Image
My rating: 9 One of the best zombie horror films of all times, even after rewatching it many times.

Review: Get Out (2017)

Image
My rating: 6 The film is very interesting to watch, with quite an original idea that was not developed that well within the plot.

Review: The Purge: Election Year (2016)

Image
My rating: 7 It gets surprisingly interesting to watch, especially considering the situation that has been going on in the US last couple of we eks.

Review: Us (2019)

Image
My rating: 3 I am starting to feel a bit annoyed with all the movies from last two years. Honestly, I am more and more disappointed with each one I watch, more so when people rate it quite high. So is the case of Us .

Review: The Clearing (2020)

Image
My rating: 1 I watched this film so you would not have to.  I had some higher expectations than I usually do, that was mostly brcause it's been a while since the last decent zombie movie came out. So let me present my disappointment.

Review: The Dinner Party (2020)

Image
My rating: 3 I have mixed feelings about this one. The plot and story developing is just a bit unbalanced.

Review: The Silence (2019)

Image
My rating: 4 So this is A Quiet Place all over again, a deaf girl being portrayed as having some sort of advantage when terrible creatures attack the Earth. Except, this idea does not work very well in this film

Review: Gretel & Hansel (2020)

Image
My rating: 3 Visually striking, but pushing hard on the feminist note. The strongest aspect of this film is the good visuals it presents. The cabin and its surroundings really just feel somewhat magical. Also the costumes are very well done.

Review: In the Tall Grass (2019)

Image
My rating: 4/10 Good concept badly executed. The story unfolds very slowly, the first half of the film is very much just people getting lost in the tall grass, but no tension, not much that would keep me personally paying attention. The second half of the film is somewhat better as there is more things happening, but still there was no tension, no pressure built, and not really that many horror elements.

Review: Haunt (2019)

Image
My rating: 8 A better slasher film. Honestly, Haunt is one of the best slasher films I have seen in a while. The plot itself is relatively simple though with some unexpected twists, the characters are not too stupid (which is rare) and I think the cast was a right choice for this one.
